Job Jar has no accounts and no sign-ups. We never ask for your name, your email address, or anything about your children beyond what you choose to type into the app. There is no advertising, no tracking and no analytics of any kind.
Everything you enter is stored on your own device: your children's first names (or whatever you call them), the jobs you set up, what each job is worth, which jobs have been approved, minutes earned and spent, the character each child picks, and your parent PIN and recovery code. If you choose a photo as a child's picture, that photo is stored on the device too.
If you never turn on multi-device sync, that information never leaves your device. Job Jar works fully this way.
Sync lets a parent's phone and a child's device share the same family. To do that, the information listed above is sent over an encrypted connection and stored on a server we operate, so the other device can read it. This includes your children's first names, your jobs, the minutes, your parent PIN and recovery code, and any photos you have chosen.
There are still no accounts. A family is identified only by a short random code and a random device token — never by a name, email address or phone number. We cannot tell who a family is, and we do not try to.
Our server records only which requests were made and whether they succeeded. It never records the contents of those requests, so your family's information does not appear in any log.
If you allow notifications, we send a message to your phone when a child ticks off a job. That message contains the child's first name, the name of the job and the minutes it is worth. To reach your phone it passes through Expo's push notification service and then Apple's — the same route every iOS app uses. Neither we nor they use it for anything else.
On iPhone and iPad, blocking is done by Apple's own Screen Time system (Family Controls). You choose which apps and categories are covered, and that choice is held by iOS on the device — not by us. Job Jar cannot see which apps your child uses, how long they use them, or what they do in them. iOS tells the app only whether a lock is currently active.
Job Jar is set up and controlled by a parent or carer. We do not knowingly collect any information from a child directly, and we ask for no personal detail about a child beyond a first name you choose — which can just as easily be a nickname.
Nobody. We do not sell, rent, share or trade your information, and there are no advertisers, data brokers or analytics companies involved. The only third parties in the chain are the ones needed to run the service: our hosting provider (Railway), and the notification services described above.
Deleting the app removes everything held on that device. If you have used sync and want the copy on our server deleted as well, email us with your family code and we will remove it. If you would rather not send the code, tell us and we will explain how to clear it from the app instead.
If this policy changes in a way that affects what we hold or who sees it, the date at the top will change and the app will be updated to point here.
